Lawrence (Larry /Zeke) Ralph Ziehlke 1937 – 2022

Angels Camp, CA…Lawrence (Larry /Zeke) Ralph Ziehlke of Angels Camp passed away on December 11, 2022 at the age of 85. Larry was born on October 23, 1937 in Los Angeles CA to parents Joseph A and Barbara Ziehlke. His family moved to the Sonora area in 1938 where his grandfather and grandmother Joseph L and Ada Ziehlke had homesteaded a small farm/ranch in the Peoria Flat Area. He attended elementary school at the Sonora Dome and graduated from Sonora High in 1955. After graduation he join the U. S. Navy and was stationed in Long Beach CA. In December 1955 he married his high school sweetheart Denise Van Horn. After his honorable discharged from the navy, they returned to Sonora where he worked in construction and other jobs before beginning work for PG&E in the fall of 1959 at the Camp Nine Power House as a power station operator. In early 1963 they moved to Angels Camp where they raised their four children. He retired in October 1994 after a 35-year career.

Larry was very active in the community helping with the Angels Boosters at the Frog Jump, Jaycees doing community projects that included lighting at Utica Park, served on the Calaveras Fair Board, coached little league, and was one of the original founders and board members of AMA Booster Club which started out sponsoring youth football teams growing to include many other youth sports. He was also a member of the Angels Gun Club, Native Sons and Masonic Lodge.

Larry enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years with family and friends, enjoyed repairing cars, and if you needed plumbing repaired was pretty handy. He enjoyed traveling more later in life, watching his children and grandchildren play sports, but most of all he enjoyed the many family gatherings.

Larry is survived by his four children and their spouses, Stephen and Laurie Ziehlke of Vallecito, Dennis and Tonya Ziehlke of Angels Camp, Lori Ziehlke-Dressler and David Dressler of Modesto, Michael Ziehlke of Angels Camp, nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, one great granddaughter on the way, Denise Ziehlke and niece Christine (Davey) Thompson. Larry is preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Barbara Ziehlke, his sister Patricia Davey, niece Cathy (Davey) Wood, nephew Rick Davey, second wife Ruth Ziehlke, and grandson Drew Dressler

Services will be held on December 19, 2022 11:00 Altaville Cemetery followed by a lunch hosted by the family at Angels Gun Club.
