San Andreas – Recent rains and cooler temperatures across the region have lowered the threat of wildfires allowing CAL FIRE’s Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit to transition out of fire season effective Monday, December 19th, at 8 a.m. within the State Responsibility Area of Tuolumne, Calaveras, Eastern Stanislaus, and Eastern San Joaquin Counties.
TCU Unit Chief Dave Wood says “Although CAL FIRE burn permits are not required at this time, residents must take appropriate precautions to prevent sparking a wildfire. If residents choose to burn, it is their responsibility to maintain control of their fire.” Before you burn, ensure it’s a permissive burn day by contacting your local air pollution control district (APCD.)

During the cooler winter months, CAL FIRE will continue to actively focus efforts on emergency response, fire prevention, and fuels treatment as guided by the CAL FIRE Strategic Fire Plan and the localized Unit Fire Plan. The CAL FIRE Tuolumne – Calaveras Unit engages in public education, prescribed burns, and various types of fuel reduction work to meet the goals of reducing the impacts of large, damaging wildfires, and improving overall forest health.

Although TCU is transitioning into “open burning,” diligence when burning should always be a priority. Ensure you maintain control of your fire at all times.
