Bear Valley, CA…Hey Good People! So…The system arriving today has a warm front which is helping the surface gradient hand to tighten up bringing winds on average in the upper 20’s and gusting into the mid to upper 30’s today. 1-3″ of snow is expected to fall today then later this evening things ram up as we dive into AR #2. 9-13″ of snow is expected tonight with continued snowfall expected Sunday and Sunday night bringing in another 7-10″ Snowfall elevations for this system look to be around the 4500′ level. A Third AR arrives on the heels of our current system Monday morning with 16-24″ falling by Tuesday morning with continued heavy snowfall well into Wednesday yet we may see the snowfall elevation rise to around 7000′ during this time before dropping again to 5000′. Showery snowfall will continue all week with AR #4 showing face next Saturday.
Winds during this time will add to travel impacts and possible delays on operations up here as ride the snow-train into deep power days ahead.
These type of warm/cold systems bring high winds, and surface gradients tighten up and loosen back and forth and they also compound Avalanche Mitigation strategies not just for us here in Bear Valley but for all NorCal resorts. The combination of these elements will bring operational delays most likely, whether it be a mix of rain/snow for riming, heavy snow on top of cold and lots of wind re-distribution. These are all factors which will keep the Avalanche Hazards in the Considerable to High level over the next handful of days.
I kindly ask that patience be observed and implemented throughout the next week as all Mtn Operations Teams AGAIN, will be doing some of the hardest work in the Industry day in and day out over the next few weeks.
These storms will give us, as well as all other NorCal resorts a run for our money bringing copious snow to the area. Make good travel plans, slow your roll up the Hwy and heed weather and Caltrans reports for a better journey up to the resort.
Peace Out,
Mattly
