(This Weekend) World Pro Ski Tour Returns to Bear Valley! History Repeats!! ~ By Mark Phillips

Bear Valley, CA…After nearly a fifty-year hiatus, the World Pro Ski Tour (WPST) returns to Bear Valley Mountain Resort on February 10-12, 2023. The racing venue for this year’s installment will be held on one of the most challenging tracks on the planet…Feather Duster!

The WPST features head-to-head racing by established bracketing and offers incredible athletes in both Men and Women divisions. This exciting element is new to professional ski racing, as historically the Tour(s) were separate and never held at the same venue on the same day…an awesome evolution to the sport. What isn’t new is the talent of the racers themselves. Many of the athletes are former Olympians, National Team members, NCAA National Champions and National Champions in their respective countries. As in previous WPST events, this year’s contingent will be multi-national in its make-up and flavor.

“Bear Valley has a rich history with the WPST, hosting renowned athletes such as 3X Olympic Gold Medalist, Jean Claude Killy and World Champion and Olympic Silver Medalist, Billy Kidd… as well as 70’ski racing icon, Spider Sabich,” says Jon Franklin, CEO of the WPST. “Skiing has been a part of Bear Valley’s history dating back to the 1850’s and Snowshoe Thompson’s treks over the Sierra Nevada delivering mail between Genoa, Nevada and Murphys. Fast forward to 2023 and the WPST and Bear Valley will collaborate to once again make history. We couldn’t be more pleased to be involved with this wonderful resort atmosphere and the amenities that Bear Valley provides.”

The WPST Bear Valley race schedule:

• February 10th: 10am Weekend Qualifying
• February 11th: 11am Men’s & Women’s GS race
• February 12th: 11am Men’s & Women’s SL race
• Post-Race Après Parties hosted by Tito’s @ 3:30pm

“I was just a little kid when I saw the pro race in Bear Valley, “ says Tim Schimke, Bear Valley’s Director of Operations. “I still remember the excitement. Having the race come back to the mountain my family has lived and worked on for generations brings it full circle; Schimkes have Bear Valley DNA in our blood. I can’t wait to bring my parents and children to the WPST “show” and to highlight to the world how awesome the skiing here really is.”
