Arnold, CA…James Donald Bracken Carlon joined his wife in heaven March 18, 2023. Jim was born August 24, 1938 in Portland, Oregon to C.W. (Bill) Carlon and Bernadine (Bunny) Arnold-Carlon. He grew up in Eugene Oregon, Boise Idaho and moved to San Mateo, California in 1952. Jim graduated from San Mateo High School in 1956 and then attended the College of San Mateo. He was an Eagle Scout and continued to be very involved in the scouting program with his sons and grandsons.
Jim married the love of his life, Janice (Monahan) in 1960. He proudly served in the United States Coast Guard Reserve from 1956-1964. Jim worked for General Electric followed by a salesman for the family business C.A. Buck Morving and Storage in San Mateo. The Carlon’s moved to Fair Oaks, CA in January 1968 and Jim became the Northern California and Nevada Field Rep for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. Jim and Janis then moved with their 4 children to Arnold in 1977 and opened Arnold Auto Supply.
Jim was a huge supporter of the Ebbetts Pass Community including a member and past president of the Arnold Rotary Club, founding member of the White Pines Park Committee, founding member of the Greater Arnold Business Association, Board member & past President of the Ebbetts Pass Veteran’s Memorial District, Elks Lodge Member, Cub and Scout Master, and a member of the Sons of the Desert Sonora Chapter (aka Laurel and Hardy Fan Club). He and his wife were the Grand Marshall of the Arnold Independence Day Parade 3 times.
Jim also loved stream fishing and fly fishing, especially on the Ebbetts Pass Corridor. He was a huge fan of Laurel & Hardy, and Red Skelton. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and exploring new places. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Jim was proceeded in death by his parents Bill and Bunny Carlon, Brother Tom Carlon, and Wife Janice. He is survived by his 4 children Greg (Susan) Carlon, Tim (Sue) Carlon, Debbie (Jeff) Rocco, and Becky (Jim) Morales; as well as his younger sister Patricia (Al) Kushner. Jim was extremely proud of his 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, and excited about the recent news of one more great-grand on the way.
