Southbound SR-49 Closed at Kennedy Mine Road Due to Sinkhole, Traffic Being Diverted Into Northbound SR-49

Jackson, CA…The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has issued an Emergency Director’s Order to repair a sinkhole that appeared on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, on State Route 49 at Kennedy Mine Road in Martell.
Southbound traffic on Route 49 is being diverted into the No. 1 lane of northbound Route 49.

A contractor was on site Wednesday to assess the damage and will make repairs accordingly.

There is no estimated time when the highway will be fully reopened.

Motorists are advised to expect delays and use alternate routes, if possible.
