Markleeville & Lake Alpine, CA…The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will formally reopen State Route 4 over Ebbetts Pass on Thursday, June 8, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. for the spring/summer 2023 season barring any unforeseen circumstances.

Ebbetts Pass, at 8,730 feet of elevation, has been closed since mid-November for the 2022-23 winter season. Caltrans crews began digging out from the deluge of winter storms on April 3, 2023. They finished clearing the road of all snow last week and have spent the past few days repairing the road, as well as clearing away debris and shoring up several flooded areas between the closure points from Lake Alpine to Wolf Creek.
