Sonora, CA…On January 26, 2024, at approximately 4:10 pm, an 89-year-old male driver of Sonora was driving a 1992 Toyota pickup southbound on Black Oak Road, while stopped for the stop sign at the intersection with Tuolumne Road. At that same time, 67-year-old Janice Greengo of Jamestown was driving a 2006 GMC Envoy westbound on Tuolumne Road, approaching the intersection with Black Oak Road, at approximately 45 MPH. The driver of the Toyota failed to yield the right-of-way to Ms. Greengo and entered the intersection, directly into the path of the GMC.
Ms. Greengo was unable to avoid the crash with the Toyota and the front of GMC struck the left side of the Toyota. The Toyota came to rest within the westbound lane of Tuolumne Road facing a westerly direction. Ms. Greengo was able to move her vehicle to the right shoulder of Tuolumne Road, west of Black Oak Road. The driver of the Toyota was not wearing a seatbelt and succumbed to his injuries as a result of the crash.
Ms. Greengo was wearing a seatbelt and sustained minor injuries. Drugs or alcohol are not suspected to be a factor in this crash.
The crash is still under investigation and the identity of the driver is being held pending notification to his family.
