Markleeville, CA…The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will be relocating the State Route 4/Ebbetts Pass winter gate closure currently at Raymond Meadows up to the State Route 4/89 Junction in preparation for this week’s atmospheric river event.
The State Route 4/Ebbetts Pass winter gate closure relocation is scheduled for Thursday, February 29, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. with no current estimated time of reopening. Caltrans maintenance crews will evaluate State Route 4/Ebbetts Pass after the storm event for snow removal and reopening the highway back down to Raymond Meadows.
Caltrans strongly recommends motorists avoid travel as much as possible during atmospheric river weather events. Winter weather and road conditions can change rapidly in the Sierra Nevadas. Motorists should expect hazardous conditions, carry chains, use caution while driving in winter conditions, and watch for icy road surfaces in the overnight and early morning hours.
