Groveland, CA…On May 29th, 2024, just before 1:00pm, 73-year-old James Brent of Humble, Texas was driving a 2024 Kia Forte westbound on State Route 120, west of Smith Station Road along with his 73-year-old female passenger also from Humble Texas. At that same time, 25-year-old Andrew Burney of Truckee, Ca was driving a 2013 Kia Soul eastbound on State Route 120, west of Smith Station Road. For an unknown reason, Mr. Brent allowed his vehicle to travel over the double yellow line, directly in the path of Mr. Burney’s vehicle. As a result, the front of both vehicle’s crashed into each other head-on.

All the occupants of the vehicles were wearing a seatbelt and sustained major injuries. Unfortunately, Mr. Brent’s female passenger succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Mr. Brent was transported to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto for treatment. Mr. Burney was taken to Memorial Medical Center for treatment.

Traffic was affected by this crash for several hours while emergency personnel cleared the road. The identity of the female passenger is being held pending family notification. Alcohol and/or drugs are not suspected to be a factor.
