Peak Fire, 316 Acres, 30% Contained, 173 Personnel

Pinecrest, CA…We continue to have a decrease in acreage from 344 to 316 acres by walking the perimeter of the fire when it is safe to do so, getting a more accurate calculation of the actual burned area. Our biggest concern remains dealing with the large number of hazard trees in and around the burn area. Snags being one of the major issues for our firefighter’s safety working around them, and the potential that they could fall and compromise the fire control line.

Firefighters will continue to work on the unburned green islands within the burn area, making sure that there won’t be a risk for flare ups causing the fire to reignite. Crews will continue with mop up today and are securing at least a 100-foot buffer around the containment line. Our number one priority is for firefighter and public safety.

FIRE RESTRICTIONS: A soft closure on forest road 4N12 is now in place at the intersection of 4N12 known as Hammill Canyon Loop. The closure is for public safety due to several snags, aircraft in the area and firefighters and equipment working on the ground. The closure will be assessed daily and stay in place until it is safe for the public to go back in.

WEATHER: Seasonably warm weather continues into Tuesday, with more noticeable cooling to near normal temperatures then expected from Wednesday into the remainder of the week. Winds will continue to follow diurnal trends the next two days as well, with stronger, downslope easterly winds late evening into the overnight hours.
