San Andreas, CA…Mrs. Lou (Cole) Montgomery February 14, 1945 ~ October 8, 2024 (age 79). Lou Montgomery, of San Andreas, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2024, at the Golden San Andreas Care Center. Born on February 14, 1935, in Springfield, Ohio, Lou was a Valentine’s Day baby, the daughter of James Marshall and Minnie Ola Cole.
At the age of eight, Lou and her mother moved to Memphis, Tennessee. She began her 9th-grade year at Humes High School, where she would have graduated with Elvis Presley in the class of 1953—a fact she always found ironic. However, before completing high school, her mother decided to return to Arkansas, where Lou finished high school in the Little Rock area.
Lou and her mother later moved to Stockton, California, where she met her future husband, Lyle Montgomery. She pursued cosmetology, earning her license in 1954. Lou and Lyle were married on December 11, 1954. While expecting their first child, the couple moved to San Andreas, where Lou remained for the next 69 years.
A devoted homemaker, Lou raised three children, practiced cosmetology from home on occasion, and cared for her husband and mother with dedication.
Lou was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lyle, and her son, David Montgomery. She is survived by her daughters, Cheryl (Dennis) McComb and Carol (Jim) McConnell; six grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Patsy Bowman; and many nieces and nephews.
