Over 400 Acres of Big Tree State Park Prescribed Burn Already Completed

Arnold, CA…It is day three of the South Grove prescribed burn, and crews have treated over 400 acres with beneficial fire. Overnight, the the area did receive some rain which has slowed ignition. Fuels must be dry to carry fire well, so hand crews are focused on heavy fuels in the interior of the unit.

During the prescribed burning, visitors should expect park closures including the South Grove Trail, Beaver Creek area, Bradley Grove Trail, fire road around the South Grove, and the Walter W. Smith Memorial Parkway just south of the Stanislaus River.
