Hwy 108 Sonora Pass Seasonal Closure Announced

Tuolumne County, CA…The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has issued the winter seasonal closure of State Route 108 (Sonora Pass) as of 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 16, 2024. The recent storm cycle, and accumulation of snow, make the seasonal closure necessary for the safety of motorists and Caltrans crews. The weather conditions and subsequent road conditions are among the determining factors in the decision to make the seasonal closure. Once Sonora Pass is closed for winter, the road will not be reopened until conditions warrant. Each year, Caltrans District 10 and 9 maintenance crews work diligently to clear debris, remove snow, and make repairs so the highway can reopen safely to motorists.

Sonora Pass is currently closed eastbound at the California State Parks OHV SNO-Park due to storm conditions. Caltrans Long Barn maintenance crews have cleared the parking lot at the SNO-Park to allow for winter recreation activities. Caltrans reminds motorists to purchase SNO-Park parking permits in advance, for more information visit the State Parks OHV webpage.

Caltrans Long Barn maintenance crews encountered approximately 7 inches of new snow over the weekend and are asking motorists to drive with caution, do not pass snowplows unless instructed by the driver, and please move over when approaching Caltrans snow removal equipment on the highway.

Caltrans also reminds motorists to #KnowBeforeYouGo by checking QuickMaps on your mobile device or visit quickmap.dot.ca.gov for real-time winter highway conditions.
