Mokelumne Hill, CA…At around 8:30 am on January 15 our crew responded to a report of a single-vehicle roll-over on Mountain Ranch Road near the intersection with Rocky Road. Upon arrival our crew found a pick-up that had left the roadway and landed on its roof in the creek. The pick-up was being driven by 19-year-old TJ Wennhold, one of our firefighters on his way to his scheduled shift here at Central Calaveras Fire.

TJ suffered fatal injuries in the crash and died at the scene.

The CHP is investigating the cause, but it appears that he hit a patch of black ice on the roadway.
This incident has deeply wounded us, and we appreciate the outpouring of support we are receiving from our community and beyond.

A celebration of life for TJ will be held on Saturday, January 25th.
