Sacramento, CA…Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil (R-Jackson) invites members of the media to jump into the action at the 49th Annual Capitol Frog Jump today, Tuesday, May 6. This Sacramento tradition pits lawmakers, staff, and media against each other in a spirited frog-jumping contest, with winners earning a spot in the Grand Finals at the Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee, taking place May 15–18, 2025, in Angels Camp.
Inspired by Mark Twain’s classic short story The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County, the Capitol Frog Jump celebrates rural California with plenty of laughs, spirited competition, and photo-worthy moments. Last year, CalMatters reporter Alexei Koseff claimed victory in the media category with his frog “Baby” leaping an impressive 8 feet, 7 inches. Will he defend his title this year? There’s still room to reserve your spot in the jump lineup!
