Thomas Joseph McCormack 1937 – 2025

Murphys, CA..Thomas Joseph McCormack age 87, of Murphys, California, passed peacefully on March 14th, 2025.  He was born in San Francisco, California on August 8th, 1937.

Tom is cherished and lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Audrey McCormack; his children, Rosemarie Hagaman (Jim), Judi McCormack (Scott Parkison); Thomas McCormack Jr. (Patrice), 
Karen McCormack, Tara Cookson (Kay), Clinton Cookson (Deena), and son-in-law Robert Hassing; his siblings, Joanne Johnson, Robert McCormack and Jack McCormack (Irene), as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren; nieces and nephews, and many beloved extended family and friends.

Tom was a dedicated son, husband, father, grandfather, and great-great grandfather. He was deeply loved by his numerous grandchildren who all

endearingly called him “Papa”. He lived a life marked by commitment to his family and a steadfast desire to serve others. Tom’s heart for service extended into every chapter of his life.

In 1954, at age 17, Tom joined the California National Guard, then transferred to the U.S. Marine

Corps in 1955. He served overseas during the final stages of the Korean War. He was honorably discharged as a Sargent E-4, with a Good Conduct Medal in 1958. He continued to serve in the Marine

Reserves until 1962. Tom was extremely proud of his Military Service and often referred to that time as one of his ‘most privileged experiences.’

His pride in being a Marine never wavered.

Following his military service, Tom built a successful career as the owner and operator of a typography business in Redwood City.

Since moving to the Murphys area in 1994, he took on leadership roles in helping his son-in-law, Jim, grow H&H Automotive repair business. Tom also worked closely with residents at Foothill Village Retirement Home, and took on responsibilities at the Victoria Inn. In more recent years, perhaps one of his most beloved roles was at Puzzle Pieces Playschool, where he was affectionally known as

“Mr Tom”. He was well loved and respected and left a lasting imprint on young lives.

Tom found joy in his faith, family and friends. He leaves behind a legacy of love, respect and unwavering dedication. The memory of Thomas Joseph McCormack will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.

He was preceded in death by his beloved parents Patrick and Lorraine McCormack; His late wife, Gladys McCormack; late wife Cindy McCormack.  His daughter, Cheryl Hassing; his sister Joyce Blanchard; grandson Joseph Hagaman and great grandson Tyler Hagaman.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 14th, 2025, from l:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Vine and Branch Fellowship located at 3710 Whittle Road in Angels Camp, Calif. The family invites everyone to join them for refreshments immediately after the service.
