Hacienda Heights Man Perishes from Collision on Hwy 88

Tragedy Spring, CA…Party #1 (P-1) drove his SUV eastbound SR-88, east of Mehrten Spring Road at approximately 60 mph. The roadway was partially covered with snow, and it was lightly snowing in the early evening. Party #2 (P-2) was driving a dump truck the opposite way (westbound) on SR-88, heading towards P-1. P-1 lost control in the snow due to his unsafe speed while rounding a slight curve in the roadway. P-2 saw V-1 out of control traveling towards him so he slowed down and almost came to a stop. V-1 crossed into the opposing lane and the driver’s side of V-1 crashed into the left front of V-2. V-2 came to a stop partially in the westbound lane and the north shoulder.

All of the front and side airbags deployed in V-1. P-1 and his passenger remained in V-1 until emergency personnel extracted them. P-1 complained of pain in his hip area, and a sustained abrasions to his face. His passenger complained of pain to her back and sustained abrasions to her face as well. P-1 and his passenger were transported by paramedic’s to Sutter Amador Hospital in Jackson, CA and later to UC Davis Medical Center.

P-1 succumbed to his injuries on May 13th at 10:38 pm. All names are being withheld pending notification.
