San Andreas, CA…Meet Poppy (A059848), a 10-month-old Anatolian Shepherd mix weighing about 65 pounds. When Poppy first arrived at the shelter, she was frightened and withdrawn. Her former owner could no longer care for her, and the sudden change left her anxious and unsure. But with patient care, soft voices, and gentle hands, she’s learned that she’s safe—and now her sweet, loving personality is shining through.
“She’s a treasure,” one volunteer said, and that sums her up perfectly. Poppy walks beautifully on leash, leaning gently against her handler for comfort and connection. She takes treats delicately, knows how to sit, and absolutely adores being brushed and petted. Her creamy coat and soulful eyes turn heads, but it’s her calm, affectionate spirit that wins hearts.
Poppy has proven herself friendly with most dogs she’s met, approaching new friends with happy curiosity and polite play bows. When another dog gets a little too rowdy, she responds with grace—never aggression, just calm good sense. Out in the yard, she enjoys chasing the ball and learning the joy of bringing it back for another round.
Though she’s still young, Poppy’s temperament is mature and gentle, making her an ideal family companion. She’s eager to please, easy to love, and ready to start her new life with people who will cherish her.
