CAL FIRE Opens Burning in Tuolumne, Calaveras, Eastern Stanislaus and Eastern San Joaquin Counties

San Andreas, CA…The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) will go to open burning effective November 20, 2025, at 8:00 AM. Recent rainfall and cooler weather conditions have reduced the threat of wildfire within the State Responsibility Areas (SRA) of the Tuolumne – Calaveras Unit (TCU). A CAL FIRE burn permit will not be needed in Tuolumne, Calaveras, Eastern Stanislaus, and Eastern San Joaquin Counties after this date.

Residents and landowners must verify that it is a permissible burn day prior to burning by contacting their local Air Quality Management District:
Tuolumne County: (209) 553-5598
Calaveras County: (209) 754-6600
Stanislaus County: (877) 429-2876
San Joaquin County: (877) 429-2876

Residents and landowners are reminded that a permit from your local Air Quality Management District may be required to conduct burning. Before you burn, ensure the following precautions are taken:
• Make sure it is a permissible burn day
• Burn only dry natural vegetative materials such as leaves, pine needles, and tree trimmings
• Do not burn trash or construction materials
• Provide at least 10’ of clearance down to bare mineral soil around your burn piles
• Ensure that a responsible adult is in attendance with a water supply and shovel
• Never burn on windy days.

Residents and landowners are responsible for maintaining control of their fires. Smoldering piles can contain enough heat to ignite surrounding vegetation. For more tips and information regarding debris burning, visit www.ReadyForWildfire.org
