Make Mila Part of Your Family Today!!

San Andreas, CA…Meet Mila (A059353), a spirited senior still waiting for her home.  Mila is an eight-year-old, 51-pound female German Shepherd mix who has been waiting at Calaveras County Animal Services since August — far too long for a dog with so much personality and heart. While the “mix” part of her breed description may be doing a bit of heavy lifting, what matters most is who Mila is, and she is very much a people dog.

For much of her time at the shelter, Mila showed little interest in other dogs, preferring to focus her attention on humans instead. Recently, however, she has surprised staff and volunteers by warming up to a few canine neighbors. It’s been encouraging to see her curiosity and openness growing, and a reminder that dogs, like people, continue to evolve when given time and patience.

Mila’s favorite activities include chasing the ball, snapping happily at the stream from a garden hose, soaking up shoulder massages, and sitting politely for treats. She enjoys engagement, affection, and being included — and she thrives when she has her person’s attention.

Because of her strong personality, Mila will do best in a home without other dogs, or possibly with one very special, compatible companion. She has completed behavioral evaluations and would benefit from a confident adopter who appreciates her independence and is willing to continue working with her, especially on leash manners.

This holiday season, Mila’s wish is a quiet home where she can be the center of someone’s world — and thanks to the generosity of a community donor, her adoption fee has been fully sponsored.

After months of waiting, Mila is more than ready for her next chapter. The right home will find a loyal, engaging companion with a strong will, a soft heart, and plenty of love to give.
