Avery, CA…Last Thursday evening the 2016 eighth grade class donned their robes and marched on to the next level of their education journey. As a parent of a graduating student the evening had me reflecting on some of the schools in our area. It reminded me of what a father who relocated his family here from the Bay Area said to me a couple of years ago. “The public schools here are better than the private schools there.” VUSD now has had all three of it’s schools recognized as Gold Ribbon Schools and Avery Middle School was one of the pioneers in moving a large portion of their education workflow to iPads several years ago.

One of the highlights of the evening was the co-valedictorians of Cloe & Tyler Crawford. The Crawford twins proved that hard work and a good old fashioned sibling rivalry can result of quarter after quarter and year after year of top grades.

Congratulations to the Avery Middle School Class of 2016. High School may not be ready for you but your are definitely ready for it. Congratulations also to VUSD teachers and administration for proving you can provide top level education in a rural, scenic setting.
