Mary Rose Chimente, December 3, 1925, to April 19, 2026. (Updated)

Sonora, CA…Mrs. Mary Rose Chimente December 3, 1925 ~ April 19, 2026 (age 100). Mary Chimente passed away peacefully at her son’s home with family by her side. Mary was born in Oakland, CA to Marco and Concetta Splendorio who were both first generation immigrants from Italy. Mary was the youngest and had three older brothers. As a child, Mary moved to Berkeley where her mother worked at the family-owned grocery store and her father continued to work for the Southern Pacific Railroad Company.

After graduating high school, Mary worked at the Post Office. She was introduced to her future husband, Frank Chimente in 1946. When Frank returned from the war, he went to work for the Southern Pacific Railroad Company, and through mutual friends was introduced to Mary. They were married on September 27, 1947. After living in Oakland, CA for a few years, they moved to San-Lorenzo, CA where Mary and Frank raised their two boys, Robert and Michael. Mary was a devoted housewife and mother. Her whole life was dedicated to her family and set a good example of not only how to live your life, but most importantly how to treat others. When Michael started elementary school, Mary decided to take a job working for the local school district as a yard duty aide.

In the summer of 1987, Mary and Frank moved to their vacation home in Cedar Ridge, CA. The move brought them closer to family and created many new friendships. Mary and Frank enjoyed going to the Italian Federation Club in Sonora, traveling, taking the bus to Lake Tahoe and most importantly babysitting her three grandsons in Angles Camp.

After Frank passed away in 2012, Mary wouldn’t leave “Papa’s house” and continued to live there until her fall on March 15th of this year. Mary was proceeded in death by her parents, her three brothers, Joseph, Frank and Alfanso, and her son Robert. Mary was a wonderful and loving grandmother to Mark Chimente, Michelle Alberto (Brian), Tony (Mar), Joseph, and Thomas (Brianna). She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews,
great grandchildren, a great- great grandchild and numerous great nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Dr. Clary, Dr. Chris Krpan, Comfort Keepers, and Hospice for all the love and support that they gave Mary.

When Mary came to visit, she enjoyed volunteering at Helping Hands and talking with all of her friends.

A visitation will be held Tuesday April 28th, from 3:00 P.M.-6:00 P.M. at the Angels Memorial Chapel in Angels Camp, CA followed the recitation of the Rosary.

Mass will be held Wednesday April 29th, at 11:00 A.M. at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Angels Camp, CA followed by a Graveside Service at the Altaville Catholic Cemetery in Altaville, CA.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that you make donations to St. Partick’s’ Helping Hands in Angels Camp, PO Box 576, Angles Camp, CA. 95222.
