Iowa Man Loses Life in Hwy 108 High County Collision with Tree

Clarks Fork, CA…On May 15, 2026, at an unknown time, a 26-year-old man from Ames, IA, was riding a 2013 Suzuki motorcycle westbound on State Route 108, east of Clarks Fork Road at an undetermined rate of speed. The rider allowed the motorcycle to travel off the south shoulder of State Route 108 where it crashed into a tree.

Due to the severity of the crash, the rider succumbed to his injuries at the scene.  The rider was wearing a motorcycle helmet at the time of the crash.  Alcohol or drugs are not suspected to be a factor in this crash.

The crash is still under investigation and the identity of the rider is being held pending notification of his next of kin.

Sonora Area Lieutenant Commander R. Matyshock states “Warmer weather brings more motorcycle
riders to our mountainous community. Please remember to travel at the posted speed limit, and if
needed, slow down for the curves in the roadway.”
