San Andreas, CA…Meet Guido (A060920), a male American Bulldog, about 4 years old and weighing 40 pounds. One look at Guido’s delightfully squishy face, trademark underbite, and tongue-out grin is enough to brighten just about anyone’s day. His expressive brown eyes seem to ask only one question: “Are we friends?” The answer, for Guido, is almost always yes.
When Guido arrived at Calaveras County Animal Services, it was clear life had not been easy. He was badly underweight and bore the signs of having spent time fending for himself. Yet whatever hardships he endured never stole his cheerful spirit. Today, Guido greets people with happy snorts, wiggling excitement, and an eagerness to soak up every kind word, belly rub, and well-earned treat that comes his way.
Guido has quickly become a favorite with volunteers because he is simply enjoyable to be around. He walks beautifully on leash, happily greeting both people and other dogs during his outings. He already knows “sit,” takes treats gently, and approaches each day with an optimism that’s impossible not to admire. His playful personality and easygoing nature suggest he’ll fit comfortably into many homes.
It’s especially rewarding to watch Guido begin to fill out physically while his confidence continues to grow. Every good meal, every walk, and every bit of affection seems to remind him that life can be kind. Now all he needs is a family to make that lesson permanent.
Some dogs capture your attention because they’re beautiful. Others because they have a remarkable story. Guido has both. He’s a resilient, affectionate dog with a one-of-a-kind smile and a heart that never stopped believing people were worth loving. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who will greet every day—and every person—with enthusiasm, Guido may be waiting just for you.
