Colfax, CA…Dane Thomas Burrell September 22, 1956 – July 11, 2026.  Dane Thomas Burrell passed away on July 11, 2026, at the age of 69.

Born in Sacramento, California, Dane spent many years in Elk Grove, where he built lifelong friendships and became known for his strong work ethic, dependability, and dedication to those around him. He later spent many years in Oregon, where he developed a love for the outdoors and a lifelong passion for cultivating bonsai trees. A dedicated member of the Bonsai Society of Portland, ABAS Sacramento (American Bonsai Association of Sacramento), and the Nevada County Bonsai Club, Dane found great joy in the art of bonsai and the friendships he built within the bonsai community.

One of the most meaningful chapters of Dane’s life began when he met the love of his life, Toni. Together they built a beautiful life grounded in love, friendship, laughter, travel, and shared adventures. Their journey took them to Oregon, where they created a home and community together while pursuing the interests they both enjoyed. Eventually, they returned to Northern California, where they continued making memories, spending time with friends, traveling, and reconnecting with loved ones who welcomed them back with open arms. The bonsai garden at the home they shared became one of Dane’s greatest passions and a reflection of the patience, care, and dedication he brought to everything he loved.

A lifelong athlete, Dane was passionate about baseball and softball. He played competitively in men’s leagues for many years and dedicated countless hours to coaching girls’ softball. One of his proudest accomplishments was coaching his stepdaughter, Tara, who later earned a Division I softball scholarship to Sacramento State. Through sports, Dane built lifelong friendships and positively influenced many young athletes.

An avid golfer and blues enthusiast, Dane found joy in the camaraderie of the golf course, the timeless sounds of the blues, and the adventures he shared with Toni through their travels. Whether on the field, the golf course, tending to his bonsai trees, or enjoying music with Toni, he embraced the things he loved with passion and dedication.

Dane was also known for his strong work ethic and willingness to help others. After a career in manufacturing, he continued working with his hands, always finding ways to repair things, lend a hand, and be of service to those around him. Dependable and hardworking, he was often the first to arrive and someone people knew they could count on.

Dane will be remembered for his resilience, dedication, and quiet compassion. While he could be serious and reserved, those who knew him best understood the depth of his care, loyalty, and generosity. He showed his love through his actions, his presence, and the many ways he supported the people who mattered most to him. Dane had a unique ability to connect with people from all walks of life, building friendships that often-spanned decades and leaving a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. His commitment to hard work, dependability, and service to others left a lasting impression, especially on his only grandson, Hasani, with whom he shared a special bond.

Dane is survived by his beloved wife, Toni; her son, Phil, and daughter, Katie, whom he cared for deeply; his stepdaughter, Tara; his sister, Dawn Scott; his nephew, Curtis; his only grandson, Hasani; his great-grandson, Zayn; his cherished dog, Elli; and many extended family members, friends, former teammates, fellow bonsai enthusiasts, and players whose lives he touched.

Though his passing came far too soon, there is comfort in knowing that Dane spent his final moments doing something he loved—playing golf. Those who knew him are grateful for the memories, lessons, friendships, and lasting impact he leaves behind.
