San Andreas, CA…Meet Linc (A060925), a male Belgian Malinois/German Shepherd mix, about 1 year old and weighing approximately 35 pounds. Linc has been waiting for a home since June, and we can’t quite understand how this sweet, handsome boy is still waiting. He arrived at Calaveras County Animal Services after being abandoned in a crate without food or water, thin and hungry.

But that difficult beginning seems firmly in Linc’s rearview mirror. With good food, kindness, and attention, he has blossomed into a joyful young dog who seems convinced that people, dogs, walks, treats—and life in general—are all pretty wonderful.

Now about 1 year old, Linc still has plenty of goofy adolescent energy, but three months of regular walks, play dates, training, and attention have helped him grow and learn. He loves getting out to explore every interesting sight and smell. Bright, food-motivated, and eager to engage, Linc has come a long way from the untrained youngster who arrived in June.

One of Linc’s most endearing qualities is his friendliness. He loves people and is wonderfully social with other dogs, eagerly wanting to greet and play. He’s affectionate, too, happily seeking attention and hugs. And then there are those soft brown eyes, which somehow manage to look soulful even when the rest of him is busy being a complete goofball.

After nearly three months at the shelter, there’s just one important thing left for Linc to discover: what it feels like to have a family of his own. His first year may not have begun the way anyone would have wished, but this sweet, silly boy has a lifetime ahead of him—and he’s ready to begin the good part.

Linc is now neutered and ready to go home. He also keeps his kennel tidy, a promising sign as he transitions to life in a home.

All dogs available for adoption at the Calaveras Animal Shelter are up to date on their routine vaccinations and will be microchipped. All unaltered dogs must be spayed or neutered before they can go home with you.

Animal Services has a Fee Flexibility Program!
When the shelter is over 80% capacity, adoption fees are reduced: just $40 for dogs and $30 for cats. Cats who arrive at the shelter already altered can be adopted for only $10. With the 55-5-5 Program, adopters age 55+ can adopt a pet over 5 years old for just $5.

Sep 12: Free Dog & Cat Rabies Vaccine Clinic, from 9-11:30 AM at Spence Ranch Feed, 1291 CA-49, Angels Camp. Dogs must be leashed, cats must be in carriers.
