Mokelumne Hill, CA…Anita Lorraine Teer, former retail manager and homemaker of Versailles, MO, died at home on September 17, 2026 at the age of 69.

Anita was born on March 16, 1957 in Des Moines, IA to Norman and Lois (Kephart) Teer, and graduated from Lebanon High School in 1975. She relocated to Mokelumne Hill, CA in 2001 and resided there until 2018. Her proximity to the Yosemite valley prompted an unabashed affection for the park that resulted in regular visits, frequently encouraged by her mother-in-law. She and her husband moved to Versailles in 2018 to be closer to their grandchildren.

Anita was a prodigious gardener of roses and produce, frequently supplying neighbors and relatives with a wide variety of tomatoes, beans, cucumbers, peppers and herbs. In addition to gardening and cooking (the product of which she also shared with neighbors and family), Anita enjoyed binge watching television series, taking spontaneous road trips around North America, and complaining about the inherent unfairness of lottery games. She adored children, even acting as a “den mother-coach” to an elementary school basketball team.

Above all, Eric Peterson, her companion and then husband and best friend of 25 years, said of Anita, “she was the most caring empathetic person I’ve ever known, and if there was a stray dog or cat around, it would always find her.”

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Jim Teer and Jeffrey Teer and her sister Sharon Rogers. In addition to her husband, Anita is survived by her brother Norman Teer and wife Sue of Appleton, WI; her son, Steve Lucas and wife Deanna of Versailles; her daughter, Shella Lucas and wife Stacy Webster of Camdenton, MO; grandchildren Madison (Frank Morton) Paige of Versailles, Logan Lucas-Massey of Kansas City, MO, Kayla Massey of Camdenton, Ashtyn Lucas and Harper Lucas, both of Versailles; and great granddaughter Braylee Morton of Versailles.

She also has one estranged sister in Iowa.

Kidwell Garber Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. A celebration in memory of Anita will be held at Rolling Hills Country Club on Sunday, October 25, 2026 at 2 pm. Anyone who knows the family is invited.
