Appaloosa Fire Cause

San Andrewa, CA…Peace Officers with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) Tuolumne – Calaveras Unit determined electrical power caused the Appaloosa Fire which is located south-west of Angels Camp, CA. The Appaloosa Fire was reported on July 2, 2016 at approximately 12:48pm. The fire was caused by a property owner working on an electrical panel breaker box which led to the water supply. The fire is still active and has burned approximately 425 acres of vegetation across multiple properties. The fire is currently 15% contained. CAL FIRE is conducting firing operations to secure the perimeter of the fire.

A citation was issued to the property owner for violation of Health and Safety Code 13001, negligently causing a fire and Public Resources Code 4422(b), allowing fire to spread to lands of another. The case will be submitted to the Calaveras County District Attorney’s Office for review.
