Arrest In Angels Camp For Threatening An Officer & More

Angels Camp, CA…On August 10th, 2016 at approximately 9:15 PM officers from the Angels Camp Police Department were dispatched to the 1000 block of Tuolumne Avenue, on a report of a male subject walking in the area brandishing a baseball bat and challenging people to fight. Upon arrival to the area officers located a man matching the description provided, hiding in a carport in the 900 block of Tuolumne Avenue. As officers made their approach to the man he discarded the bat inside the carport.

The man was detained and officers determined that he did not live at the address. During the course of the investigation specific threats were made by the man, including threats to murder the officer’s children and family. Additionally, while attempting to determine if the homeowner knew the suspect the suspect was asked to step out of the police vehicle, at which time he spit several times on one of the officers and made reference to the “Red and White” taking care of the officers. The “Red and White” is a common street reference to the Hells Angels motorcycle gang, which is well known for the red and white colors on the distinctive gang insignia worn on their clothing and other property.

Shaun Nicholas Johnson, a 28 year old Angels Camp resident, was arrested, transported and booked into the Calaveras County Jail on the following charges;

1) 69 of the Penal Code; Resisting an Officer
2) 243(b) of the Penal Code; Battery on an Officer
3) 148(a)(1) of the Penal Code; Resisting / Obstructing an Officer
4) 647(f) of the Penal Code; Public Intoxication

It was also later determined that the suspect reportedly challenged the reporting party to “come at him,” while holding the baseball bat, prior to officers arriving. A request was made for the district attorney’s office to review the case and consider filing additional charges related to brandishing a weapon and making criminal threats.
