WWll Fighter Pilot, Richard Earl Hansen 1923 – 2016

Murphys, CA…Richard Earl Hansen, 92, died in San Andreas on Monday, August 22, 2016 of complications following a stroke. He was born on September 25, 1923 in St. Paul, MN to Eyvind and JoHannah Hansen. He is survived by his wife, Nancy, of Murphys, CA, his sister Betty, his son, Eric, and his daughter, Tina. Known to all as “Dick,” he had a Bachelors degree from the University of Minnesota and a Masters degree from Syracuse University. Serving nearly 35 years on active duty with the United States Air Force, he was highly decorated having been a fighter pilot in the Pacific during WWII, flew in support of the Korean War, served as a cold war bomber pilot, and as a tactical transport pilot in the war in Vietnam.

In his retirement, Dick authored several novels and articles for publication, and published an autobiography. Services were held at the Buena Vista Cemetary in Murphys on August 25, 2016. Donations to the VFW Post 2600 at Box 987, San Andreas, CA 95249 are appreciated.
