Angels Camp, CA…On August 30th, 2016 at approximately 2:15 AM an officer from the Angels Camp Police Department made a traffic stop on a vehicle towing a trailer, for faulty lighting on the trailer and improper mounting of a license plate. The driver of the vehicle advised the officer that his driver license is currently suspended, which was confirmed through a records check by dispatch. Dispatch also advised that the driver had an outstanding warrant for his arrest, which was confirmed with Sacramento County.
A consent search of the vehicle revealed approximately one-half ounce of methamphetamine, a digital scale, plastic packaging material, and several Hydrocodone pills. An interview was conducted with the suspect, after reading him his Miranda rights, and he admitted that he sells narcotics to his friends. The suspect stated that he believes that it is safer for his friends to buy narcotics from him, versus street level dealers that may rob them.
Owen Robert Thomas, a 53 year old Avery resident, was arrested and transported and booked into the Calaveras County Jail on the following charges;
1) Driving on a Suspended Driver License
2) Possession of Methamphetamine
3) Possession for Sales, Methamphetamine
4) Transportation for Sales, Methamphetamine
5) Possession of Hydrocodone
6) Possession of Narcotic Paraphernalia
