Murphys, CA…Libby was born on August 13, 1923 to Charles and Mary E. Ray of Frederick, Maryland. She departed us on the evening of Friday, September 9, 2016 at Doctors Medical Center in Modesto, CA at the age of 93. Libby met Gerhardt “Gary” Riedel at the Lutheran Center in Baltimore at a church dance during World War II. Gary was in port while he was serving with the Merchant Marines and they continued to date whenever possible as Gary’s travels with the Merchant Marines would allow. After the war they were married on April 7, 1946 at Grace Lutheran Church in Baltimore. In the early years of their marriage, they lived in West Los Angeles where they raised three boys, and Libby enjoyed a distinguished career with the UCLA Medical Group. When the kids left the nest for college, Gary and Libby moved to Pismo Beach, where Libby loved living near “her” ocean. Almost two decades later, Libby and Gary moved to Murphys to live close to family.

Libby loved to knit and read, play cribbage with Gary and above all else, spend as much time as possible with family, including yearly family reunions at Pismo Beach.

Libby and Gary attended Foothill Lutheran Church in Valley Springs.

Libby is survived by her husband Gary , sons Fritz Riedel (and wife, Georgia) from St. Leonard, MD, Ted Riedel (and wife, Monika) of Murphys, CA, Mark Riedel (and wife, Brigitte) of Encino, CA, grandchildren Corwin, Alex (and wife, Kelly), Karl, Conrad, Matthew, Bethanni, Katarina and great grandchild, Graham.

Libby was a loving generous wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Libby will be laid to rest at Buena Vista Cemetery in Murphys during a private family ceremony.
