Additional Charges Added After High Speed Chase Arrest

West Point, CA…On Sunday the 9th the Calaveras County Sheriff Deparment received reports of a stolen dark blue Honda CRV from the West Point area junction of Lily Gap and Roden Drive. Yesterday a citizen observed the vehicle traveling directly behind her. She recognized the vehicle from a Nixel report and contacted 911. The male suspect was described as 20s or 30s about 6 ft; with long black hair and a black beard. The male has been identified as Zachary Uriah Gomez of the West Point Area.

CHP initiated an enforcement stop on the vehicle. However, Gomez failed to yield and continued westbound on SR-4. An Esparto man driving a Kenworth was traveling northbound on SR-49 just north of Carol Kennedy Rd. The pursuit continued northbound and Gomez passed the big rig on the double yellow lines.

Just after passing the truck, he swerved back into the northbound lane and sideswiped the truck. The truck driver lost control, ran off the road and overturned (partially blocking the northbound lane). The Gomez attempted to continue northbound but due to the extent of damage caused to the CRV was unable and came to a stop at the Cement Bridge. He then tried to evade police on foot; however CHP units were able to take him into custody.

At the time of Zachary’s booking the Calaveras Sheriff Department was investigating additional charges for a home invasion and car jacking in the West Point area. Since his arrest, additional charges have been added. He is booked into the Calaveras County Jail on the following:
