Bear Valley, CA…Bear Valley Resort and Backcountry Pictures presents “A Walk in the Park with David Vassar” featuring the Academy Award®-nominated and Emmy® Award-winning writer, director, producer, and documentarian, David Vassar on Friday, November 25, 2016. This VIP presentation is limited to only 150 tickets and will presented in Bear Valley Resorts’ majestic Cathedral Lounge as part of Winterfest Weekend. The presentation will be followed by a wine and cheese reception with the filmmaker and each attendee will receive a free Bear Valley 2016/17 Season Ski Lift ticket valued at $75.
“A Walk in the Park with David Vassar” is an epic film retrospective through America’s magnificent Yosemite, Grand Canyon, Grand Teton, Yellowstone and Death Valley National Parks, among others, highlighted with personal stories from Vassar’s lifetime of environmental filmmaking. Scenes from Vassar’s Academy Award-nominated documentary, Generation on the Wind, and the PBS special featuring California State Parks, California Forever, are also included in the program. The program also includes a sneak peek of Vassar’s new film about the deserts of the American Southwest, “Exquisite Wasteland,” co-produced with Sally Kaplan, which advocates for desert protection and features Death Valley and Joshua Tree National Parks, the Mojave National Preserve and others.
“We are pleased to partner with David Vassar to celebrate his latest film that helps encourage awareness, care and enjoyment of the outdoors – all in line with our core values,” said Andrea Young, General Manager of Bear Valley. “We encourage guests to come out and enjoy this event as part of our opening weekend activities celebrating the start of the 2016-17 season.”
“A Walk in the Park with David Vassar” was first presented to a sold-out audience and resounding accolades at the 2016 Environmental Film Festival at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of American History, in Washington, DC, this past March. Since June 2016, the program has been presented to sold-out audiences at the Bret Harte Theater in Angels Camp, the Brower Center in Berkeley, and the Wine Country Film Festival in Sonoma. The Bear Valley Resort presentation will be a uniquely intimate opportunity to experience “A Walk in the Park with David Vassar” one
more time before it embarks on a 2017 west coast tour with stops at, to name a few, the Wild and Scenic Film Festival in Nevada City, The Nat in San Diego, The Presidio Trust in San Francisco, and the San Francisco Green Film Festival.
At the age of 19, while still in college, David made his first film in Yosemite. It was the beginning of a journey that continues to this day; one that would take him to some of the nation’s most magnificent National Parks where he has written, directed and produced more than a dozen films. These films have featured celebrities such as actor Harrison Ford, legendary newsman Roger Mudd, and iconic musician Paul Winter. Vassar’s work continues to reach millions of people in theaters, cable and broadcast television, international film festivals and National Park Visitor Centers. The central message of each film remains the same; to strengthen the bond between people and nature, inspiring them to become advocates for conservation.
About Backcountry Pictures, Inc.: Founded by David Vassar and Sally Kaplan in 2001, Backcountry Pictures creates powerful films and television programs that impart a sense of wonder about the natural world and inspire conservation and preservation.
