Angels Camp, CA…On November 4th, the Bret Harte FFA Chapter participated in the Mountain School opening and closing contest at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds. The Calaveras FFA Chapter hosted the contest not only for Bret Harte FFA, but also Sutter Creek FFA, Argonaut FFA and Sonora FFA.
The competition consisted of three different levels beginning with the Greenhand Teams (freshman students only), the Open Teams (mixture of Sophomore, Juniors & Seniors) and the Chapter Officer Teams (one team per chapter). The contest requires a team of officers to recite the opening and closing ceremony from memory and they are judged on presentation, poise and accuracy of speech. The Bret Harte FFA Chapter was proudly represented with one Chapter Officer team, two Open teams and six Greenhand teams with over 50 students competing. The Chapter Officer team was awarded a GOLD award, both open teams were awarded GOLDS and the six Greenhand teams brought in five GOLDS and one SILVER award! Overall, Bret Harte FFA won the Outstanding Open Team with team members Bailey Van Zant (President), Jared Bettger (Vice President), Kenzie Segale (Secretary), Josh Soria(Treasurer), Rosalie Soliz (Reporter), and MASON DAVIS (Sentinel) Living up to this year’s motto, the Bret Harte FFA Chapter used “hard work, sweat, and determination” to make our dreams of GOLD come true
