Detectives Investigating Possible Arson Fire In Murphys

Murphys, CA…On 11/17/16 at 3:24 AM, Calaveras County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 2000 block of Nickerson Lane in Murphy’s for a vehicle fire. Deputies arrived on scene and observed a RV motorhome fully engulfed by fire. Witnesses on scene reported seeing a male subject running from the motorhome fire. Deputies learned that an argument arose between the RV owner and the tenant over an unpaid electricity bill resulting from a registered marijuana grow site.

The property owner asked the tenant, identified as 45 year old Quinn Morgan Shields of Rail Road Flat, to leave his property. Witnesses on scene identified the male subject running from the fire as Quinn Shields. Quinn Shields was later contacted at the Calaveras County Jail where he was asking to speak to a detective. Quinn Shields was subsequently arrested for his alleged involvement in the arson investigation of the motorhome.

The RV is described as a custom built 1949 Chevrolet. The loss of the property was valued at $30,000. Additional facts of this incident are still under investigation.
