Hwy 4 Seniors Receive Holiday Gift

Murphys, CA…The Murphys Senior Center and Food Pantry received a $1,000 donation from the Calaveras County Foundation (CCF) this holiday season. The funds will be used to purchase meat/protein for Holiday Food bags for local seniors, increase senior food outreach and create a Nutrition Education Program. The Murphys Senior Center provides free classes, education and social events to 350 participants monthly. In addition, The Murphys Senior Center Food Pantry coordinates The Emergency Food Program and The Federal Food Commodity Distribution; both programs supply food for over 100 needy seniors per month. The Murphys Senior Center is open Monday through Thursday from 9am to 4pm and continues to offer free programs including Bridge, Pinochle, Zumba, Strength Training, Mexican Train, Aerobics, Dance Classes and a Food Pantry. MSC is located at 65 Mitchler Avenue in downtown Murphys, 728-1672.

MSC exists, partly due to the help of CCF and the Federlein Fund. The Federlein Family Fund at the San Francisco Foundation specifically benefits area seniors.  These funds are in memory of Lloyd Federlein. CCF offers donors both the potential benefit of a tax deduction and the knowledge that they have helped a variety of worthy local causes.  Most donations are allocated to CCF’s general grant program, but options are available for donors to direct their donation to specific purposes or organizations (as the Federlein Family Fund has done).
