Sonora, CA… Sonora Regional Medical Center welcomes Brett Lockman, D.O., a board-certified Physiatrist (Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation physician) with additional certifications in Sports Medicine and Brain Injury Medicine. As an interventional physiatrist, Dr. Lockman provides minimally-invasive procedures for the treatment of acute and chronic conditions of the nerves, muscles and bones. His ultimate goal is to return individuals to their pre-injury level of function or maximize their performance using a range of treatment options including therapeutic exercise, medications, injections and spine implants. Dr. Lockman also uses regenerative medicine to heal chronic arthritis and sports-related injuries.
Dr. Lockman attended Michigan State University where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Physiology and Doctorate in Osteopathic Medicine. He completed an internship at Ingham Regional Medical Center in Lansing, Michigan, and residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. He held multiple positions at both private and government institutions, most recently serving as CEO of Advanced Wellness Sports & Spine in Davenport, Iowa, since 2011. Here he oversaw business operations, service expansion, and the introduction of advanced regenerative medicine and high frequency spinal cord stimulation technologies to the Iowa market. He is a frequently called upon medical consultant and has lectured nationally on regenerative medicine and functional approaches to the treatment of neck and back pain. He is lead author of a chapter in the recently published medical text, “Peripheral Nerve Entrapments: Clinical Diagnosis and Management”.
Before pursuing his medical career, Dr. Lockman served six years as a Marine Corps jet engine mechanic and close combat instructor. He is a decorated Gulf War veteran and lifelong marital artist. His passion for biomechanics and anatomy, as well as his own injury history, motivated him to pursue Osteopathy and Physical Medicine.
Dr. Lockman focuses on nutrition, movement and lifestyle as important elements to healing. He has advanced training in interventional pain and headache medicine and regularly pursues additional education and skill development. “I view myself as a Marine on a mission to fix the problem. I’ll do everything from osteopathic manipulation or nutritional counseling to stem cell injection or spinal cord stimulation to get my patients back to living the vibrant life that they deserve,” he explains. “Physiatry offers patients so very many options and that is what makes it such an exciting field.”
Dr. Lockman has moved to Sonora with his fiancé, Dr. Rana Rand, who is also a physiatrist joining Adventist Health. Together they enjoy the outdoors and spending time with their two English bulldogs.
