Two Families Looking Forward To New Homes

Copperopolis, CA…Habitat for Humanity Calaveras is nearing completion of homes for two families in Copperopolis. Volunteers from Calaveras and Amador counties are installing kitchens, and completing painting, flooring, and trim work throughout the homes. They are assisted by volunteers from across the country provided by the AmeriCorps. The two families who will live in the homes are also providing hundreds of hours in sweat equity to complete the homes. This requires extensive work in all parts of the construction.

AmeriCorps places thousands of young adults into service positions where they learn valuable work skills, earn money for education, and develop an appreciation for citizenship. AmeriCorps members travel the country strengthening communities and developing leadership skills on diverse teams. Members serve full-time for 10 months to address community needs and respond to disasters. AmeriCorps members working in Copperopolis include young people from New York, Texas, Massachusetts and Minnesota.

Habitat for Humanity Calaveras partners with people in the community (and all over the world) to help them build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. With your support, Habitat homeowners achieve the strength, stability and independence they need to build a better life for themselves and for their families.

Habitat still needs volunteers to complete the Copperopolis project. Anticipated completion will be in June 2017. Any level of skill can be used. If interested, contact Lisa Peterson at (510) 919-6852 or petreher1@yahoo.com.
