Thursdays, April 8,13,20,27 from 11 am–noon. TWAIN TALKS with Jim Fletcher, historian and author of Mark Twain’s 88 Days in the Mother Lode, who shares historical information about Mark Twain’s life, particularly the short time that Twain spent in the Mother Lode. FREE.
Saturday, April 8 – Angels Camp Business Association sponsors “A Spring Affair” Sidewalk Sale in Downtown Historic Angels Camp. MAE celebrates the arts and literature with a sale on books, puppets, and more. Meet local artists and writers and shop the arts. FREE. There will be food trucks and ice cream, live music and vendors. Bring out the kids for photos with the Easter bunny and a Children’s Chalk Art event.
Saturday, April 22 – “Taste of Calaveras” at Ironstone Vineyards sponsored by Angels Camp Business Association. MAE will have a book and arts table on display. 12-4 pm. Cost $50 for the event, which includes food and wine.
Sunday, April 30 – Janet Trinkle’s “Painting with Flowers” class. Local botanical artist Janet Trinkle returns to teach the arrangement of flowers, with an emphasis on pansies, in whimsical presentations. Cost for the 1-3pm session is $30 and includes pressed flora and frames.
May 5-7 – Goldrush Writers Conference in Mokelumne Hill. $185. Writers workshops with famed writer guides – includes Friday picnic supper, Saturday dinner, and Sunday luncheon. goldrushwriters.com.
May 11 – Thursday evening, 7 pm. Lucy Sanna, author of The Cherry Harvest,
will speak about her novel’s historical setting, the 1940s WWII era in the US, when German prisoners of war worked the cherry orchards and the drama one family experiences as a result. FREE.
May 18-21 – Jumping Frog Jubilee and County Fair – MWP has an author table in the Professional Art Building. Stop by and say hello to your local authors and poets.
Saturday, June 17 – Manzanita Writers Press hosts California Poet Laureate Dana Gioia at the Angels Camp Museum Carriage House from 12-4 pm. Reception at noon. The event is FREE, but donations will be accepted at the door to support Butte Fire publications and website, and other MAE projects. Everyone is welcome. The new print anthology, Out of the Fire, launches that day and books will be available for purchase. Contributors will be there to read and share their work. Photographers and artists who are featured in the publication will have photo prints available for sale. Help support the publication by contributing to the Out of the Fire Kickstarter campaign.
