Copperopolis, CA…DeWayne M. Elson passed away unexpectedly on May 11, 2017 in Copperopolis, California at the age of 61. DeWayne is survived by his wife Deborah; son Chad his wife Jennifer their children Cameron and Riley of Placerville; son Ryan and wife Ellie their children Andrew, Dane and Bella of Fremont; son Troy of Copperopolis, daughter Keri her husband Lance Gunter, children Hailee and Wyatt of Copperopolis; sisters Stephanie Salinas of Newark, Vicki and husband Greg Pease of Camino, and Pamela Yordy of Merced. He was preceded in death by his parents DeWayne and Joyce Elson and brother David Elson.
DeWayne was born on March 27, 1956 in Oakland California. He married his childhood sweetheart Deborah Bega on July 24, 1976. The two grew up in Fremont California where they raised their four children. He was an active and loving father coaching and/or cheering on his children throughout life. While in Fremont the couple was active in the community and enjoyed touring in their motor home, taking motorcycle rides and camping.
The couple moved to Copperopolis in 2012 quickly putting down roots and becoming part of the community. By August 2015 DeWayne finally realized his lifetime dream of owning a bar when the couple purchased the well known local sports pub; Micki and Larry’s Sports Pub. Under the new moniker The Pour House DeWayne threw himself into his “retirement job” embracing every aspect of the business and loving every minute of it.
DeWayne was well known for his humor; always smiling, laughing and delivering one-liners that kept people in stitches. He was generous to a fault and always there lending a hand to anyone who needed it; he was happiest when he was helping people. He loved to hug and if you were lucky enough to have known him you would have been embraced in his warm hug many times throughout the years.
A celebration of life is scheduled for Sunday May 21, at 1:00 pm at Black Creek Park, Copperopolis, California.
A reception will immediately follow the service following along with DeWayne’s tradition of loving life; as there will be a BBQ, live music and plenty of friendship.
All are welcome to attend and celebrate DeWayne’s life. The family will hold a private burial ceremony on a later date.
