Minor Injuries In Bus Collision That Snarled Traffic Yesterday

San Andreas, CA…Jeffery Nelson was driving a charter bus westbound on State Route 12, east of Double Springs Road, carrying 34 juveniles and four chaperone’s. The bus was returning from a field trip and returning to the Woodland area. Mr. Nelson allowed the bus to travel off the north side of the roadway and down a steep embankment. The charter bus came to rest on its wheels at the bottom of the embankment. Five of the juvenile passengers sustained minor injuries and were transported to Mark Twain Medical Center for their injuries. State Route 12 was completely closed to off load the passengers for approximately 30 minutes. The roadway was then opened to one-way traffic control until approximately 4:30 PM, at which time it was closed to remove the bus. Caltrans responded and set up detours while the roadway was closed. The roadway was reopened at 6:10 PM.
