San Andreas, CA…In Calaveras County, four (4) people were arrested by the CHP between 6:00 pm Friday and 11:59 pm Monday. Three (3) were arrested for DUI while one (1) was arrested for Evading Arrest. Twenty eight (28) citations were issued during this time period. Most were for speeding including several mechanical violations. There was one (1) citation issued to a driver for failing to wear a helmet and for not having an OHV – Green Sticker.
The San Andreas Officers handled nine (9) accidents during this holiday weekend. A dirt-bike accident, in the Wilseyville area, resulted in the death of the driver. An ATV accident, in the Stanislaus National Forest, resulted in major injuries to the passenger. The remaining seven (7) accidents were non-injury.
The San Andreas CHP office is disturbed to report that for 2017, we have handled eight (8) fatality collisions. Five (5) of these fatalities have been just this month.
As a result, the San Andreas Area will continue aggressive enforcement and educational efforts to save lives and keep roads in Calaveras and Alpine counties safe for everyone. We also want to remind everyone that they need to put down the phone, focus on driving, always wear your seatbelt properly, and to designate a sober driver; otherwise it may cost you your life, or the life of someone else.
