In recent weeks, there have been several debris pile escapes in Tuolumne and Calaveras counties.  These landowners were not following the terms of their permit, or did not have permit.  Anyone who allows fire to escape their control are subject criminal and civil penalties. Close attention to the requirements above and adhering to the terms and conditions within your permit are essential at all times including the evening restricted hours.

Safe residential pile burning of forest residue by landowners is a crucial tool in reducing fire hazards.  Unit Chief Josh White explained, “We strive to allow burning as long as possible; however, due to lower humidity levels and higher temperatures, conditions dictate we must limit burning to evening hours.”
