Sacramento Man Lost His Life in Hwy 49 Big Rig Collision

Mokelumne Hill, CA…At about 8:30pm a 42 year old Sacramento man was operating a combination commercial vehicle consisting of a truck tractor and it’s two trailers, hauling asphalt from Carson Hill Rock Products in Angels Camp to a highway paving project on Hwy 88 in Amador County. He was traveling northbound on Hwy 49, north of Mokelumne Hill descending a grade towards the North Fork Mokelumne River Bridge. He reached a speed of over 40 mph, which was too fast for the truck he was driving on the steep curved roadway.

He lost control of the truck which ran up an embankment along the east roadway edge. As the truck tractor and one trailer started to overturn back onto the roadway the driver came out of the cab and was struck by the trailer as it overturned onto it’s left side causing the driver to suffer fatal injuries.

Hwy 49 had to be closed from Moekelumne Hill to Amador County for 5 1/2 hours while the collision was being investigated and the spilled asphalt was being removed from the roadway.

From all of us at ThePineTree.net our thoughts and prayers are with the driver’s family and friends and also the emergency personnel who had to work the incident.

The driver’s name will be released following notifications to next of kin. Alcohol or drugs are not believed to to be a factor in this collision.
