21 Traffic Fatalities Statewide Over Labor Day Holiday

CHP’s Labor Day weekend Maximum Enforcement Period was from 6:01 pm Friday, September 1st to 11:59 pm Monday, September 4th.  During this time CHP investigated 21 fatal traffic collisions statewide which claimed the lives of 21 people. The 21 lives lost were 15 vehicle occupants of which 7 were without seatbelts, 5 motorcyclists of which 1 was without a helmet, and 1 pedestrian. Outside of CHP’s jurisdiction in incorporated cities, 9 additional fatalities have been reported in California for the same period. CHP also arrested 1071 people for driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs during the MEP.

During this time, CHP in Tuolumne County issued 69 traffic citations, 1 notice to correct, 6 written warnings, made 5 DUI arrests, and one other felony arrest from a pursuit.  Sonora Area CHP also responded to 12 non-injury collisions, 2 minor injury collisions, and tragically 1 fatality collision.
