Murphys, CA…Arnold Gustave Everson , born in Brooklyn New York on May 21, 1918 has gone to join his wife of seventy-five years, Edna May Greene Everson and his daughter, Corinne Jane Azinger, in their Heavenly home. Arnold, age 99, died peacefully on August 30,2017, with his daughter, Elizabeth Armstrong at his side.
A Chief Pharmacist Mate in World War II, Arnold served aboard the
Frigate, USS Glendale, in the South Pacific . His ship participated in the battle of Coral Sea and Leyte Gulf. He regaled family, friends and all who would listen for the rest of his life with tales of that challenging time.
After his honorable discharge in 1945, Arnold returned to New York and then Busks County Pennsylvania where he worked in the medical and pharmaceutical business for over forty years. In his spare time, Arnold
gardened and enjoyed family horseback rides trough the woods and fields around the countryside, near their Colonial home, located on acreage that was an original grant from William Penn.
After “retiring”, and for the next 25 years, Arnold and his wife Edna owned and operated a large gift shop–“Christmas Joy of Cape Cod”, in South Chatham, MA.
In 2003, they moved to Murphys, CA to live near their daughter, Rev. Elizabeth Armstrong. Arnold is survived by his daughter, six grand children and nine great grand children.
A Memorial Service will be held in his honor on Saturday, September 23, at 3:00 pm at Union Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, 1141 S. Main St. Angels Camp, CA.
Donations in Arnold’s name may be made to Union Congregational Church or to Hospice of the Sierra.
