Kirkwood, CA…A 70 year old Nevada womanwas traveling eastbound on State Route 88, east of Kit Carson Drive. She was traveling on a straight portion of roadway when she allowed her vehicle to gradually drift left, over double solid yellow lines, and into the opposing westbound lane. The vehicle continued drifting across the westbound lane and entered the opposite dirt shoulder. The vehicle traveled on the dirt shoulder, collided with a metal marker pole, and continued drifting left.
As the shoulder ended and a steep descending embankment began, the vehicle traveled down the embankment. After colliding with some boulders, the vehicle came to rest on its left side. As a result of P-I ‘s use of seat belts and air bag deployment, P-I sustained only minor non-life threatening injuries.
The preliminary investigation indicates that P-1 was fatigued and sleepy, a primary factor in her inability to maintain control of the vehicle.
