Copperopolis, CA…On 9-8-17 Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office Detectives and members of the Calaveras Sheriff Marine Safety Unit served a second search warrant at a location on D Street in Oakdale for additional stolen property related to the boat thefts on Lake Tulloch. Detectives located stolen property from several of the reported thefts and burglaries that occurred in Copperopolis, CA between June and September 2017.
During the service of the search warrant Detectives located a large quantity of methamphetamine (approximately 0.77 pounds) in a vehicle, along with a semi-automatic handgun. The vehicle’s owner was identified as Carlos Ivan Garcia Olmos (age 39 from Escalon). This vehicle also contained stolen property from the Copperopolis thefts. Mr. Olmos was arrested and booked into the Calaveras County jail for 496(a) PC – Possession of Stolen Property. The charges of 11378 HS – Possession of a Controlled Substance for Sale, 11379 (a) HS – Transportation of a Controlled Substance, 29800 (a) (1) PC – Possession of a firearm by an Addict, and 135 PC – Conceal Evidence have been referred to Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
Calaveras County Sheriff’s Detectives are continuing to investigate these crimes. Detectives observed video surveillance which shows at least 4 male subjects were involved in some of the thefts. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Calaveras County Tip Line at 209-754-6030.
